We haven't had children of our own, yet. She lives in the same community as we do and it would be obvious what we are doing, but Cathy I'd do it in a minute if I could - not to shortchange my stepdaughter but because there has to be a point where enough is enough, I have no idea what kind of $ it takes to raise a child but she should be accountable for half the revenue. To be honest things were going so well with the ex, until.... we offered to only pay half of the orthodontic expenses - oh noooo.... that was it with her working for a lawfirm - my husband says it would have happened anyway, we have 10 more years of this!! I estimate the support will be upped to 850/month + 100 the orthodontics which will, indeed, make our financial situation very tough (UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE DAY)while she'll be taking in all this cash as we are paying the taxes.

Still we are going to see an attorney tommorow just in case there is a way to have get a settelment at the "lower" end of the guidelines as opposed to "middle". I'm probably hoping too much. I have not come across a happy ending on any other message board pertaining to this issue!

There are so many reasons this is unfair to us but without bearing...the law is..this percentage of total gross pay and I suppose nothing else matters.

The sad part is that even though I know it will rob us financially, I don't want to deny the child fun and "things" we like to provide to her when she is with us.

Thanks.
